About B.O.S.P.
The Bigfoot Ohio Sighting Predictor (B.O.S.P.) is a specialized project applying modern data science to the enduring mystery of Bigfoot within the state of Ohio. Our mission is to move beyond anecdotal evidence and provide a quantitative, data-driven approach to understanding the patterns and potential habitats of this elusive creature in the Buckeye State. By aggregating decades of Ohio-specific sighting reports and correlating them with a vast array of environmental and geographical data, we aim to create the most sophisticated tool available for researchers and enthusiasts focused on Ohio's Sasquatch phenomena.
Our Methodology
B.O.S.P. utilizes a Species Distribution Model (SDM), a technique commonly employed in wildlife biology to predict where species might be found. Our model is powered by a Random Forest algorithm, a type of machine learning that excels at identifying complex patterns in large datasets. We train this algorithm on historical sighting reports from Ohio, teaching it to recognize the specific environmental conditions—such as forest density, elevation, proximity to water, and human population levels—that are most frequently associated with a Bigfoot sighting in this region. The result is the Bigfoot Activity Index (BAI), a dynamic score that predicts the probability of activity for any given location in Ohio.
